Shelter Advocate (Deadline to apply: October 1, 2022)

NextStep Domestic Violence Project seeks a Shelter Advocate who will work closely with the Residential Team with the responsibility of welcoming new guests, assisting guests with personal needs, safety planning, and making connections with other support or assistance agencies.

This advocate will work closely with the shelter navigator to help families in shelter to obtain permanent housing. They will ensure the shelter is clean, safe and well-maintained.

This is a full-time hourly position based in Washington County, Maine, with some in-state travel required. Our primary operating hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some night and weekend work required.

This position involves heavy lifting and cleaning and regularly involves climbing up and down stairs. Other requirements include a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and vehicle insurance; a landline or cellphone with reliable service; and satisfactory response from government agencies to required background checks.
