Eastport is breaking the silence of intimate partner abuse in July through 25 Finding Our Voices "Let's Talk About It" downtown window banners all around the town, each featuring the face and voice of a Maine survivor plus the 24/7 NextStep helpline phone number, and a public (safe distancing) celebration on July 25.
On Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to noon participants will be encouraged to follow an Art Walk map to see every one of 25 the women featured on the 4' x 2' banners. They are aged 18 to 80, from Casco to Machias, all safe and free and promoting undersanding of the complexities of domestic abuse, and inspiring women still trapped in either dangerous relationships or misplaced shame to reach out for the help that is there to also be safe and free.
From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. there will be an outdoor presentation that includes a number of the Survivor Stars on the banners, and representatives from NextStep.
